Preparing for your Engagement Session | Sacramento, Napa Engagement Photographer

Show your friends and family how your love story began with an engagement session! Engagement sessions add so much to the story of who you are as a couple… right now.

Your engagement session can be as simple as a stroll through your favorite park, an intimate meal at your favorite café, or even a romantic return to the proposal site— anything you can imagine to share the imagery of your personal love story. Formal or informal, images from your engagement session are beautiful additions to your wedding package. These photos help craft your story, and can even be used for Save-the-Date cards, Invitations or Thank You cards. It’s also an ideal way to become more comfortable in front of my lens before your wedding day.

Here are a few helpful tips to prep you for your session:

#1

Compliment your Surrounds

You have the option of changing your outfits halfway through. Normally, I have you start with the dressier outfit first and then change into a casual one. But before you start thinking of what to wear, we need to choose your date and location. I want your outfits to compliment your surrounds. Do you like Water and Sand? Fields and Trees, Forest, Urban? Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?
Once you decide that, then pick your outfits that compliment your surrounds and season.

Coordinate

Pick a palette of 3 to 4 complimenting colors. If you are having your photos done in the Spring or Summer lean towards light tones such as light to medium blues, creme, light pinks, soft greens etc. If you are in the Fall or Winter think warmer tones, like burnt orange, dark blues and maroon. Feel free to look at my pinterest boards for ideas. Avoid wearing all bright white or all black. Stark white can wash your skin tone out and black can make you disappear. I want you to pop in the images.

Don’t Forget Accessories

It’s really easy to forget earrings or a necklace but really it ties the outfit together. Even a scarf or a jacket can create a totally different look halfway through your photo session. Having these on-hand, adds variety to your session.

Hands Up

Because your hands will be a focus in the session, make sure both of you have a manicure.
